This was advertised as a Smart Points cookbook. However that is not the case, it does give the outdated Points Plus, but you'll have to calculate each recipe for the Smart Points. Because of that I haven't used it.
I've been on WW since January, and I've been frustrated by how few recipes are available for the new SmartPoints program. I wouldn't make all of these recipes on a daily basis, but I appreciate the variety. I am cooking for one, but most of the recipes are easy enough to adjust portions accordingly. I appreciate that book is large and beautifully presented. The photographs are great and the recipes are easy to follow. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for SmartPoints inspiration.
When I saw the two previous, kind of negative reviews for this book, I felt compelled to comment. This book is terrific! I read a lot of cookbooks, and this is well-done. On the basic level: it is well-illustrated, has thick pages, opens easily and stays on the cookbook stand. Each recipe also lists the nutritional values as well as the new Smart Points for each dish. The recipes have a very manageable amount of ingredients and instructions in easy-to-understand language. I have four children - teenagers and college students. Even my picky-meat-and-potatoes guy would eat most of these recipes. The division of the book into sections is great; they're entitled: Cooking with Staples from Your Pantry, Super-Easy No-Cook Recipes, Make It Ahead, Shortcut Dishes, Slow-Cooker Chilies/Stews/Roasts/and More, Have Breakfast for Dinner. There are main dishes and side dishes. I am not a gourmet cook and regularly avail myself of meal-kit services (e.g. Plated), precooked grocery meals and carryout. This is a welcome addition to anyone who is trying to adhere to the Weight Watchers food plan but also for everyone who wants to serve their family healthy dinners.
I have made several recipes from the book and they all turned out well, and taste good. Most of these recipes are labor intensive, with several ingriedents. If you don't mind cooking or baking and you want good results this book is for you. If you want quick and easy and like to substitute instead of buying the correct ingredients it is not. Having gone through all the recipes twice, I easily selected 15 I wanted to make right off. Most of the ingredients are not difficult to find, but some you will have left overs you will have to find a use for because of the small quantities used. Over all I think I made a good purchase. The German Choclate Cake muffins are awesome!
This has some GREAT recipes! I just hate the layout of the book. I like when all dinners, desserts, etc are together. They are not in this book as it's all mixed together. I think it would be more useful if it was organized better.
I was super excited to finally see this on my doorstep! This hard back book has a variety of recipes for any occasion, simple to elegant and includes Smart Point values. I feel it was a great value and I'm buying another for my WW buddy :)
We are cooking our way through this book. It really does work for the entire family. When you are on Weight Watchers cooking for everyone can be a challenge but this book is a true helper.
The recipes are just odd. I was very disappointed. I went through about half the book and only found maybe a few recipes that I would even consider making. When I think of "family meals" I think of meals that you can make in under 45 minutes that would be crowd pleasers. The cover picture implies that everyone would be grabbing for the yummy food... But when I went through the recipes, I just kept thinking how strange the ingredient pairings were. I'm not interested in these recipes and I can guarantee a 10 year-old kid definitely wouldn't be!
The recipes are simple or odd. Do you need a recipe for a variation of tacos meatloaf? Are you likely to eat Fresh Figs with Bourisn or Swordfish with Meyer Lemons? Organization is difficult to follow. Check the book out from your library and save your money.
