I appreciate the messages I got from this book, in them I find peace and comfort, for such is the characteristic of the word of God. Sometimes I feel I need to change the mode of my prayer because I think I say the same things over again too often. I know that little words mean much when it comes to prayer, but in order to spend more time with the creator, I have to know what to say and have more knowledge of His mercy and love.This book contains a lot of short prayers that can be really helpful in different times, depending on the situation. Most important section I found from this whole book was– HOW TO PRAY. I know many people say their prayers but not with the qualities defined here. I believe they are the most essential in all prayers. It says pray with attention, affection, patience, humility and do not rush the prayer etc.I have several other prayer books and they are truly helpful to me, just as this one turned out.

I do not have the words to describe how wonderful this book is.I had it for a while and I just picked it up again. I sincerely wish that I had know about this book a while ago while my husband was still on this earth.( if it had been in print then. I bought this book mainly because NaPro was the only reference online I could find to people assessing progesterone levels during the 2nd or 3rd trimester. Knowing that the internet can be a disaster of information, I tend to rely on scholarly articles for most of my info, or at least to confirm what I've read elsewhere. My problem with this book was that all of the research they referenced was their own, and it was not published in peer reviewed journals. They also didn't have nearly enough samples to prove any of what they were saying. They offered a couple examples of checking people's progesterone and giving supplements throughout pregnancy and the pregnancy going well, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't have without the progesterone. They also had one example that ended in a pre-term delivery and they seemed to be saying, "imagine how bad it could have been without the progesterone" - again, it could have been totally the same, or maybe you even made it worse.My research on NaPro was somewhat limited by the lack of information available online, but it seems to be a Catholic-based doctor group that helps with infertility, but only in ways that they feel don't interfere with God's plan. That definition is vague, I presume intentionally, but it does seem probable that if you're limited in what options you can provide people, you're more motivated to "prove" that what you can do makes a difference.There may very well be something to progesterone supplementation in the 2nd and/or 3rd trimester, but this book certainly doesn't provide the research to prove it. Hopefully more research is done, that can be assessed and analyzed by unaffiliated parties, to shed more light on the topic. Until then, I'd treat this book like you would most info on the internet.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I bought this book several years ago when I was learning the method because I was hoping it would be more of a TCOYF approach to explaining the method in the context of family planning. THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS BOOK IS. (Hence many of the critical reviews.) Even as an instructor-taught user of the system, it confused me, and it does come across as very defensive in tone. The italics and bolding are just the worst. Trust me when I say, it's literally in everything PPVI does and if I could rip it out and edit the mess out of this book and everything else they publish, I would in a heartbeat.I now teach this method, and I also now understand the context for this book. This is a condensed version of a large medical textbook written for medical consultants for NaProTechnology. It didn't make ANY sense to me until I became a teacher of the method. Now it's a very valuable resource as I help my clients navigate their health. Whenever he refers to the Creighton method of charting in this book, it's solely in the context of putting the medical protocol into context. This book is not about the charting method. It's about NaProTechnology, the medical protocols developed from the standardized charting used in the Creighton Model. So if you're looking for a book about the method, this isn't it. It was never meant to be that. It's aimed largely at medical professionals even though it's not marketed as such. (One of many struggles in their marketing department, I assure you.)Having been a personal beneficiary of NaPro's medical protocols both for health and fertility after four losses, I can guarantee you that it's no more of a money-making scheme for the teacher than someone who teaches piano lessons or private tutoring for an hour (and you want someone to be exceptionally thorough with your fertility, right?), though price can vary by teacher and location while many of us also teach pro bono or at prorated rates depending on income or financial distress. Sure, not all teachers are created equal, but that's true for anything. Thankfully many of us teach online these days so it's relatively easy to find someone new if you hate the person local to you.Long story short, this is not a "user-friendly" book under any circumstances. It does contain valuable information for health if you can look past the defensive tone and the unnecessary italics and bolding. Enjoy!

I have fallen in love with NaProtechnology and wanted to learn more, so I bought this book. I found it incredibly informative and interesting. The difference in NaPro doctors and Regular OBs/REs is that NaPro doctors aim to pinpoint the problem and eliminate or treat it rather than eliminating only the symptoms. Not everyone wants birth control for irregular periods or IVF for infertility, so it's nice to see a group of doctors and scientists committed to uncovering and offering other options for women. I appreciate that they study things other doctors don't seem to think of or care about - like the link between low progesterone and placental abruption and/or late term loss . So many doctors would say that "these things happen" and would brush them off as "random", but NaPro doctors know the important role of progesterone and continue to study it. This book is full of good information backed by studies, and while it's probably not for the average person who leaves her care 100% in her doctor's hands, it's invaluable for the woman or couple who wants to advocate for appropriate care or wants to learn more about hormones and the female reproductive system.

This is a pleasurable series and Hugh de Singleon is an appealing protagonist. He isn't a knight looking for heroic adventures, but a responsible thoughtful man who does his duty as a surgeon, bailiff and member of a community, all of which means he winds up as a hero. This time he becomes involved in looking for a missing member of the town which entails several trips to nearby Oxford. For us this might mean a trip of about an hour; for him, it involves an overnight stay at an abbey. He discovers that four men have been attacking travelers and murdering other travelers. The suspicions of the reader are aroused early as to just who the culprits are but it is still enjoyable to see how Hugh finds the solution. There is also another crime in Brampton which Hugh resolves. It is interesting to see how justice was carried out, summary execution for the thief but penitential trip to Jerusalem for the murderers.

Hugh de Singleton is back at Bampton Castle after an adventure in France with his baronial employer. While the bouts of plague have thinned the populations of rural England, perversely reducing criminal activity by increasing employment opportunities, a crime wave has hit the Bampton/Oxford region. Travelers are being killed on the road; houses are being burgled ("hamsoken" is the term of the period) and maidens assaulted in the fields. Hugh de Singleton's own house and family suffer from the criminal spree, and as bailiff for the area, stopping the problem falls on this shoulders.As always, author Mel Starr provides plenty of details about daily life in 14th Century England, in addition to an engaging mystery plot. His characters are well-fleshed out and credible.Followers of this series will not be disappointed by this new episode.

Again a an adventure of Hugh De Singleton, that you will not be able to put down till it is finished. Hugh is the bailiff and surgeon to a great lord of the 14th century, at the end of Edwad the III's reign. It is a time of great uncertainty, as the plague has reappeared again.Men are just beginnig to raise the first questions of what will become the reformation, and Hugh is friends with (and in sympathy with) John Wycliff, who will write the first English Bible. Amid this troubled time Hugh is raising a family while trying to solve the mysteries that come his way.He is a curious man, and that, combined with his surgeons skills lead him into strange and somtimes dangerous places. i love history, but I usuallt have no use for murder mysteries. Too late.I began to read, and was hooked. And you will be too. Journey back to 14th century England, to a village called Bampton, near Oxford...

I always enjoy once again meeting Hugh, his family and the other returning characters in this series. His gently humorous remarks and his thoughts on hot topics of his day add depth and interest to his personality. He is independent enough to harbor some dangerous ideas, but sensible enough to keep them to himself--usually. While I am not knowledgeable enough to know if the descriptions of various medical practices of his time are accurate they are very interesting and I look forward to that part of the story. I expect that the inclusion of Hugh's father-in-law in the story will add some conflict, but I also expect Hugh to handle it with good humor and discretion. I will be waiting impatiently for the next story in the series and may pass the time by rereading the previous entries.

In “Deeds of Darkness,” Hugh de Singleton returns from war in France to face a crime wave in Bampton, the fourteenth-century English town where he serves as bailiff and surgeon. Singleton is a sober man, so his account of events unfolds somewhat slowly—we learn almost as much about the meals he eats as the crimes he must solve. But that is the special allure of this series—its assured depiction of a world vastly different from our own. There’s so much wrongdoing in “Deeds of Darkness” that remembering who’s done what to whom takes patience, but any sense that book is loosely constructed is belied by a heartbreaking final line. Just about perfect.

This is one of those stories where it's not the destination, but the journey. The mystery is not very mysterious, but the book is a wonderful slice of medieval life. It shows that, while we have more modern conveniences, everyday life hasn't changed all that much. Hugh and his wife have a happy little family, and are surrounded by families in various stages of disfunction. I love the descriptions of the things they ate, wore and used, and how they lived.

Great read, as usual. For anyone who has never read any other books in this series, you can easily read it as a stand alone, but be prepared, because you'll want to read the rest. No spoilers, the bad guy(s) was (were) a complete surprise. Well written and interesting. Can't wait to read what happens next in Hugh's life.

The Hugh de Singleton series just keeps getting better and better. Each and every book has been well written, with just the right amount of suspense and humor. You won't be disappointed by this latest tale. Journey to Bampton and enjoy your visit.
