Disappointed in this guidebook. I have dozens of guidebooks that I have purchased to plan trips and have never found a book to be as useless as this one. I learned more about this city in the minutes I spent scanning another book at a bookstore than I did reading this one cover to cover.

I'm picky when it comes to city guides. I occasionally pick up one at a book kiosk at the airport, flip through it and while I'll sometimes find them informative, they frequently feel like someone "from away" has swooped into town, done mega research, and penned a 36-hour guide.Not so with Pamela McNaughtan's Urban Guide to Quebec City. The tips, the tone, the insider content -- you know it's written by someone who's planted herself in that city and knows "the people in her neighbourhood" -- as well as the places, the eateries, the best times (and ways) to check out historic sites and museums.The tips on 'what to do' are clearly crafted by someone who's visited multiple times and at different times of day. In short: by someone who lives there. And the foodie tips? Obviously, they come straight from the gut – not from Google.I've spent chunks of time in Quebec City. My longest stay of 6 weeks (for a French immersion program some years ago) gave me what I thought was a good insider take on one of the oldest cities in North America. Or so I thought. Pamela McNaughtan's book has provided entire layers of Quebec City that I somehow missed. Urban Guides: Quebec City has enticed me to go back again.

What a great guide to the city. With few options in English for travelers visiting the city, this is a god-send for independent travelers. It has a true local's slant to the information, sharing the stories of the people behind the recommendations as well, which I love. I have not yet visited the city, but I feel completely prepared now.Plus, in addition to being useful, it's gorgeous too! It's a pleasure to dig through the various sections and plan my trip to Quebec City.

Fantastic guide which goes in much more depth than most. You can clearly tell this was written by an insider with rich knowledge of the city. Highly recommended for those looking to explore this fascinating city!

Great little guide to Quebec City, which makes us even more excited for a visit. Loved the interviews with different city residents involved in hospitality, and learning the story behind different places. Packed with great suggestions for spots to eat and drink, and really got a feel for the city.

Let's face it: if you're reading Steve's book, you probably recognize a lot of the trials he faced as a kid. You likely faced them yourself. I know I certainly did. But it's not just that the tale is a familiar one, it's that Steve presents it in a very endearing and sometimes profound manner. And while he's a comedian, this isn't a book written to elicit guffaws. It's one that illustrates a lesson many of us don't learn until well after high school: it's okay to not be popular, or beautiful, or feared. As long as you have good friends and can accept yourself for who you are, you'll be okay. A good book all-around, despite a shaky start. Steve definitely finds his footing, though, and it quickly becomes engrossing. Highly recommended.

At just under 300 pages, it’s a book I will return to in the future.What I LikedBeing familiar with Steve’s stand up comedy, I was expecting a more mature themed book. One of the first surprises was how effortlessly Steve brought the voice of a teenage boy to life. It’s a book I can encourage my kids to read. That surprised me, more than I like to admit.The stories Steve shares are each entertaining in and of themselves. He also weaves them together into a story arc that is compelling. He frames the entire sequence like a comedy show: Opener, Feature, Headliner. He casts himself in the role of each person, his own confidence matching the proficiency of each progressively better performer. It’s a compelling storytelling method.The book is also filled with bits of wit and wisdom, some worthy of a teenager, some evidence of much more maturity.Oh, and Steve is a baseball fan. I really like that part of the book.What I Didn’tSteve tells us about friends and does a good job of introducing each one. However, I read the book over the course of about a week. That meant I would set the book aside for a time and when I picked it up again. Like an experienced comedian, Steve would freqeuently call back to prior stories or people. It was sometimes hard to remember on later references just who he was referring to.By necessity, Steve had to pick and choose which experiences and people to focus on. He does a good job of building it all into a story. It also means that he touches on certain scenes or people and then moves on. Several times I found myself ending a scene and feeling I wanted to spend a little more time with the people I’d met. I’m sure I probably would have felt that way no matter how many words Steve had written about them.What It Means To YouI can wholeheartedly recommend Ginger Kid. If you are already a Redophile (A fan of Steve’s comedy) then Ginger Kid is going to give you some insight into how he became the comedian you enjoy. If you are new to Steve’s comedy, Ginger Kid is still an entertaining read. If you weren’t the nerd in high school, you probably knew him. If you weren’t bullied, you probably saw it happen.Ginger Kid is a hopeful story of how the geek, the nerd, the awkward kid, eventually grows up. We all have our high school memories. Ginger Kid lets you share in Steve’s memories.

As a talented standup comedian, Steve has had a lot of practice at storytelling. This well-crafted journey back through Steve's early years and the many experiences he had made me smile, laugh, get a little weepy, and even get angry at times (at his bullies). I recognized my own childhood bullies in some stories, as I think many readers of all ages will. It's good to know that there's life after bullies. I even got my mom into it by loaning her my ebook, and then she borrowed my hardcover copy to finish it. "His humor is in everything," she said. "Even the chapter titles."

As someone who actually lived through some of this with Steve, (no I'm not Hope or Alexa or Beth), I found this trip down memory lane hilarious. From elementary school, Hebrew school and USY, Steve has always been able to make me laugh, when he wasn't pissing me off. This book made me question if I was one of his bullies (haven't found me in the book yet), made me laugh at the stories about his family since I spent a lot of time at their house being friends with his sister, and miss the cheesebus! (Never thought I would ever say that!!)

As someone that would often fake being sick for a half-hour breather in the nurses’ office I found this book incredibly relatable - not just because we’re both gingers either. I highly recommend this book to anyone who felt like an outcast in high school. Even though it was so long ago, cause he’s so old, there is a bit of solace in knowing you weren’t alone...

Steve reminds us all that nobody really is perfect. Something every school kid needs to be reminded of. Buy it.

Great insight into explaining the isolation of bullied kids. Hope many will learn how they can overcome and succeed as Steve did. Was sorry when I came to the end.

I purchased this to enjoy reflective reading and applying to my life while hoping for some inspiration. I admit that much of the poems considered "great poetry" leaves me scratching my head, and feeling disappointed in not having the type of intellect to grasp the whole or primary message the poet is trying to convey.I purchased this book to repeat the reading of some of the great poems we studied in Literature class in High School. So far I am very pleased with having especially the "giants" to read and I'll, admit, if you won't tell anyone.....primise? ....that I hope with my old age now, I'll finish reading some of these and respond with an enthusiastic, "Ahh! I get it now!"

We ordered this book for my elderly mother in law who was confined to bed the last 8 months of her life. She wanted to keep her mind sharp and her childhood memories included memorizing poetry offered a diversion from just watching TV. I recommend this book to teach kids some of he classics they are not learning any more

I'm proud to be an American because our poets like Walt Whitman. Edgar Allen poe and Emily Dickinson are one of my favorite poets poetry is great

I like the great diversity of poems in this edition and that is part of why I gave it such high marks. I enjoyed a great number of these poems. As one who received a degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing, I can say i have studied and enjoyed many of these poems while also not enjoying a few that have bothered me over the years, LoL.I was happily surprised to find that Abe Lincoln was even in here. I like the poem that was chosen by the editors that he wrote.A few of the poems i sifted through were a few of my least favorite. While I enjoy T. S. Eliot, I do not like The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock! Perhaps it is because I had to spend so much time studying that poem, but it just is not one of my favorites. I also am not a fan of the poem The Red Wheelbarrow! However, as a poet myself, I do respect the man as an author no matter how much i dislike that poem.Some of my favorites like Ars Poetica, Fire And Ice, and The Raven far exceed any poems I do not have a passion for. I highly recommend this book for anyone that loves poetry!

This is a great little book. I was interested in American Poetry and this selection of authors was very good. We have so many talented people in the good ole USA and this makes me proud. I remembered so many of the poems in the book and had not thought about them for years. I heard a quote from an old poem and looked it up online and then searched Amazon and this little book was the dose of poetry I needed. Thanks...

Great collection of American poems, I take it with me when I know I'll have a little down time and want some travel through the poetic minds of my country.

I guess I expected too much. I enjoyed reading some of them, however, isn’t poetry an objective subject!Have several hand held books at home, so I can’t honestly compare.

I've used this anthology in several of my classes. While it doesn't have every poem I'd like to cover (what anthology does, though?) it is an excellent place to start, and a fine way to introduce many of the great American poets to students. Since it's so cost effective, too, I recommend that students purchase their own copy so they can write in it as they dissect some of the poems. All in all, a great little book. Plus it's light, making it easy to carry in a backpack or purse.

Milewski is an outstanding book for anyone interested in quickly coming up to speed in the rapidly expanding field of 3D fabrication of metal structures. Written by one of the pioneers of this field, J. O. Milewski has clearly condensed all the major AM processes into one very readable book, without the use of high level mathematics or technical jargon that complicates many of the other AM publications. The fundamentals of lasers, electron beams, and welding arcs, as used to make 3D “printed” parts from both powder and wire feedstock are presented, and connected to each other by the underlying formation of a localized liquid metal melt pool that is used to build structures with dimensions from microns to meters, layer by layer, without the use of molds. The cited references are open sourced, so that the reader can easily access additional information to dig deeper into any specific topic, while acronyms and language specific to metal AM is presented in the book’s glossary to make this job easier for readers new to the field. Unlike other books that focus on one of the many metal AM technologies, Additive Manufacturing of Metals covers all the major technologies, and does this throughout the entire process from computer aided design, to feed stock production, and on to 3D manufacture and finishing of the final part.
