Entertaining and informative book. The authors command over the language is impressive. I am visiting Kilimanjaro soon and I found the book gives a good insight into what the trip will be like. The book is full of historic information, both natural and human. Vivid photos, as expected of a National Geographic book, though I would prefer less glossy and minute details - if too much of a natural attraction is revealed in advance, the real experience is usually a let-down. I am itching to see the corresponding I-Max movie now, though after my trip.

I saw this book right after returning from a trip to Mt Kilimanjaro, and was amazed by the high fidelity of the images in the book. I believe it truly captures the essence of the moutain. The main risk related with this book is that, after reading it, you may find yourself dreaming with this moutain. It also contains an interesting introduction to the mountain's and the surrounding area's history.

This book is very interesting and a good companion to the IMAX video I also bought through Amazon. Great photos.

Book was ripped and damaged. I wanted this to be a coffee table book, but due to the rips in the cover and stickers on it, I couldn't use it for that and it just sits at the back of a bookcase. The condition was really poor.

I bought this following my trip to the summit of Kilimanjaro, as a memento of the trip and it is a fantastic reminder of the experience as well as giving a lot of information about the mountain I was unaware of. And a fantastic accompaniment to one of the best films ever made about the mountain.

Absolutely beautiful book. Gave as a gift to a niece who had just returned from climbing Kilimanjaro; she rated it excellent.

Like most readers, I won't be climbing Kilimanjaro any time soon, but picked this book to enjoy the experience vicariously and save wear and tear on the mountain. The illustrations provide ample eye candy to distract the reader any time the text becomes tedious. This is a gorgeous tour, completely insect free, without bureaucratic hassles, that allows you to see snow on the equator without getting your fingers cold. To avoid altitude sickness, I suppose I can get comparable exercise by going up the same flight of stairs 2413 times, defrosting the freezer, and going down 2413 flights to recover.Of course, that would take all the fun out of the experience. Salkeld's book does the job of putting some of that fun back in. It starts with several chapter on the history of European discovery of the mountain, interwoven at times with more modern accounts and with Salekeld's own experience climbing with David Brashear's team from National Geographic. Just past the halfway mark, the historical material peters out and the story focuses more on the National Geographic expedition.Like any good coffee table book, the text flows well as a stream of consciousness but rechecking any one fact can be a huge task. Interleaving the time-shuffled text with sidebar articles compounds this challenge. On the whole, though, the visual exposition and the stream-of-consciousness organization make for a worthwhile vicarious tour.

Kilimanjaro, an African icon, is the only one of the seven summits that can be climbed by anyone, including children and senior citizens. This coffee-table book is a great choice for armchair travelers and anyone who wants to climb (or has climbed) Africa's highest mountain. The book documents the journey of a party of climbers who accompanied David Breashears and his team as they made an IMAX film about the mountain. Author Audrey Salkeld, who specializes in books about mountaineering, has assembled a great mix of Kilimanjaro ecology, geography, history, lore, and travelogue related to her climb. The story starts with East Africa's Chagga people and their legends, then moves to missionary Johannes Rebmann whose story of equatorial snow was met with disbelief, then on to the other explorers, and eventually the first (known) mountaineers who climbed the mountain. Several other authors contributed articles on the Kilimanjaro's relation to the Rift Valley, Missionaries in Africa, Elephants, Mountain Sickness, Film and Literature, Plants, Volcanic History, etc. Very well illustrated with color photographs and historical images, as one would expect from a book published by National Geographic.

It's ok for an introduction, but AWS changed parts of the interface so the screenshots didn't match exactly.

Very high level. I was looking to use this for obtaining my learning for AWS Certified Solutions Architect This book does not have enough depth.I've used the following which I find to be much better:Book -AWS Certified Solutions Architect Official Study Guide: Associate Exam - Excellent guide with the right amount of depthLearn Amazon Web Services in a month of lunches - by David Clinton - Very high level. Only a few pages cover VPN where all of the other guides provide a lot more depth. If you want a quick, high-level overview, this may be the book for you. If you want to know it in depth or pass the AWS Certified Solutions Architect, then skip this book.VideosAWS Certified Solutions Architect by Ryan Kroonenburh - You can find this on acloud.guru or udemy. This is a pretty good intro and overview. I colleague of mine used just this and said it wasn't enough to pass the exam.AWS Certified Solutions Archicted by DolfinEd / Eissa Sherif on Udemy - Lots of depth. I would have provide it more concise but he definitely cover its in depth

Clinton offers a well thought out learning experience with this book, rather than just a list of instructions. First he helps you build a base of knowledge, then he helps you build on top of that. It’s not just about looking up how to do a particular thing, though you can certainly use it that way if you are familiar with AWS and just need to reference something particular.This book isn’t over-full of pictures, because that isn’t necessary, but when a picture is useful, it’s included.After helping the reader learn how to use the basic structure of AWS and some of it’s most useful features, the last two chapters address that fact that AWS is huge and look at how to proceed past what is offered directly in this book.This book offers an excellent way to get a good solid start with AWS and may be all you need; if not, it’s still a great foundation for the rest of your learning.

Actually, you would need more than a year of lunches and multiple books to cover all of the 100+ currently available Amazon Web Services (AWS). But David Clinton (and his large team of manuscript reviewers, helpers and editors) wisely keep this book focused on a dozen or so services that a growing small business can put to use. The author introduces "core AWS tools" and then expands the focus to becoming a "power user" adept at "optimizing your infrastructure." Finally, he challenges you to figure out what else you can do with AWS once you are familiar and comfortable with some of the 50 or so services that appear on the main menu (which leads, of course, to more menus and more services). One of the strengths of this book is that it keeps a good focus on "principles and practices of AWS deployment, rather than exactly where on a page you are supposed to click." And, to me, it meets its goals of introducing readers to "the way AWS tools work" and giving readers "practical, hands-on AWS skills that will allow you to build your own simple, reliable, secure web services." To his credit, David Clinton does not try to dissuade his readers from checking out AWS's key competitors, Google Cloud Services and Microsoft Azure. And he doesn't insist that everything has to be put on the cloud. There are still many valid cases for using local servers or creating systems that are "half-local, half-cloud," and so forth, he contends. As a small business owner, I have managed my IT for over 15 years, including our web site and some PHP and Rails web apps. I had some experience with EC2, but knew I had a lot more to learn.This has been a phenomenal book and I'm amazed at how much I learned. I migrated our website and the PHP app to EC2, migrated our local backup drive to an S3 container (and will probably start using Glacier when I know more about it), and have some ideas about what I'd like to do with our Rails app.One thing that wasn't mentioned that can be extremely helpful is that if you make a Windows server in EC2, you can actually log in using the Remote Desktop Connection feature and you'll have a regular Windows desktop to work with. Our timeclock needs to be hosted on Windows, so I use a small EC2 instance just to host it and I can log in and manage updates and the timeclock software as if it were on the Windows computer on my desk. It's very convenient if you want to get started and avoid using SSH and learning Linux. (It's also possible to load a desktop for Linux on EC2, but definitely not something I'd recommend to someone just starting out!)Overall, a very useful and well-written book. I'll definitely be checking out other books by this author.

well written and detailed book however as stated in the introduction, the book will be most useful to those who are interested in thoroughly studying Jung's ideas as it might be quite a challenging read for the layman. A prior understanding of Faust as well as some Greek, Christian and Mithraic mythology and theology would come in handy to anyone interested in this book. Nevertheless the book offers great insight into Jung's early thought processes and I would definitely recommend it

The description above correctly states that sometimes Jung trades readability for erudition. He was an astonishingly well read man, a polyglot, and seemingly an etymologist as well. He moves quickly from the myths of one society to another, sometimes assuming a familiarity which I do not have. Still, I was able to understand the myths that he referenced from context, for the most part.Jung believes, in contrast to Freud, that the libido (that is, what he calls the genetic libido) is broader than the merely sexual libido. He "proves" this assertion through an analysis of the disinvestment of the world by the libido in psychosis. This disinvestment, Jung argues, is so complete in psychosis that it cannot possibly be merely the disinvestment of the sexual libido. That is, the subtraction of the sexual libido's energy from the individual's engagement with the world could not explain the completeness of the individual's disengagement with the world in psychosis. This seems to me to be a strong argument, if one accepts the premise that neurosis and psychosis can be explained by degrees of investment of the libido.I was less convinced by his contention that as one becomes disengaged with the world, one regresses into oneself such that one's thought processes come to reflect the thought processes of earlier societies. For one, this is problematic because it assumes that some societies are more "primitive" than other societies. Secondly, it seems a bit outlandish to claim that, somehow, antique Greek myths are lying beneath the conscious mind of, for example, your average uneducated Middle American. Nonetheless, Jung marshals a huge amount of anecdotal evidence—from his practice and from mythology and literature—in support of this claim. It is enough, at least, to assume the claim is correct in order to follow his analysis of Ms. Miller through the rest of the book.I won't go over his discussions of the importance of the symbols of fire, trees, the sun's going up and down, dragons, sea monsters, treasures obtained at difficulty, etc. All of his arguments are, again, supported by a frankly unbelievable array of examples in literature, mythology, and Jung's clinical practice.In the end, I both was seriously challenged by and really enjoyed this book. I feel like it has given me another vocabulary with which to engage with literature, film, and art. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the subject.

I don’t recommend purchasing the digital version of this book. Constantly finding words being attached together and/or misspelled.

This particular Kindle edition is unreadable - produced by faulty scanning and completely overrun with typos, words mashed together, misplaced titles, and completely erroneous characters. Should be taken off the store.

Cannot read. At least 100 errors per page????? How is this even allowed for sale? Difficult reading when there are not a thousand typos.

Love how it starts off with the one myth I truly wanted insight on which is the Oedipus complex. And thats only three pages in cant wait to lea4n more from this great sage of his time!

Great book just difficult to read. Def not a beginners book. So choose wisely if you're new to the subject matter.

This book was a lot smaller than I expected! It’s like the size of my hand and I have very small hands. The print is also very small and hard to read. It is a gift for my husband and I just hope it isn’t to small for him to read. Other than the surprisingly small size the content seems to be something my husband will enjoy very much

If you're the type of whisky drinker who hasn't ventured outside of a handful of malts or blends, or are just starting to discover whisky, this book is a great resource for discovering new and exciting expressions. First, I must commend Mr. Buxton for placing whiskies on his list which he confesses to not enjoying, but realizes others might find excellent - some of the peatier Islay scotches for example. I bought this book knowing it was a subjective list, and did so gladly since the book doesn't try to focus only on single malts or a specific whisky making region - like Mr. Jackson's treatise, a "Complete Guide To Single Malt Scotch." And in the process of reading through the 101 whiskies presented in the book I've discovered a handful of whiskies from distillers I've never thought of buying (i.e. Buffalo Trace) and in a couple of instances I've expanded on the list by filling the gaps in the ranges Mr. Buxton recommends. One such example is The Macallan, which places three spots on the list with their 10, 18 and 30 year old expressions. After buying a bottle of The Macallan 10 year, and trying their 18, I decided to purchase a bottle of 15 year Fine Oak, which isn't on the list. The Macallan profile was so good in the two I tasted from the list that it convinced me to try the 15 year and see what I might have been missing between the 10 and 18 year expressions; I'm glad I did!The list isn't presented in any hierarchal structure, but rather alphabetically, which makes finding whiskies easy and the book enjoyable to read. The only complaint I have is with Mr. Buxton's color coded price guide, which can often be hard to decipher requiring a trip back to the front of the book to glance at the legend and as one color blind friend mentioned is near useless for him. Other than that small quibble, this is an excellent book and one I highly recommend.

I bought this book as a gift for my 23 year old son. He loves whiskey (or whisky, depending on where its from). His favorite is Jack, of course, but he likes to try new ones too, so his gift was a gift basket with a big bottle of Jack, then my hubs went to the liquor store and bought all of the little bottles that you would find in a mini-bar in a hotel and some snacks, cans of coke. It was a HUGE HIT!

This is a fun "list book" with discussions of what makes each unique, interesting, or noteworthy.Ranges from the very inexpensive (AKA "cheap") to the moderately expensive.There's no hurry to burn your way through the list, you have a lifetime.Note: there is a place at the bottom of every page to list your comments about each one... which is a little sad if you buy the kindle version.

My hubby has a new interest in whiskey so I got this as a Christmas gift. He fell in love with this book. He read and re-read. He even took it to work to share. My only problem is how much money he is spending on whiskey now.

Interesting book, and obviously subjective, but I really like the selection it can give. It will be a gift to a friend who loves whiskies.

buy it, love it, get toasted on some great whiskies. Enough said. The alcohol is in alphabetical order, the pricing is all relatively inexpensive, most being below $100, so its reasonable. Most are widely available as well. I bring it to the liquor store with me.

A Breath of Witchy Air begins with a truck from a local brewery crashing on a nearby road so Aunt Tillie and Bay head down to check it out. Aunt Tillie wants to drink the beer while Bay is there to cover the story for The Whistler. While taking pictures Bay ends up discovering four dead girls that were dumped near the crash site.  As part of the investigation, Bay travels to a nearby town where some of the girls were affiliated with the local community college. She notices that all the college kids are playing new game on their phones and something just doesn't sit right. Aunt Tillie, Thistle and Clove all end up playing the game, with differing results.  One of the parts I really liked about the book was when Landon, Marcus and Sam were heading out to play pool. Landon and Marcus started teasing Sam in a way very similar to how the girls tease Clove, which I found pretty funny. Overall I enjoyed the book, it's another good book in the Winchester Witches series. I like getting to see Bay strengthening her witchy powers as well. Definitely a recommended read.

Lee is back on stride with this one. This is a nice, tight mystery with plenty of suspense. Bays ghost whisper powers grow into something more powerful and we can look forward to exploring them with her.Although the Winchester zaniness was in full force, it actually made some sense this time instead of seeming like a plot filler. The game in this story had more than a passing resemblance to Pokémon Go, without the built in safety and privacy protections. Kind of leaves you glad the Pokémon creators had enough prior experience to take those precautions.The villains were not so easy to spot this time, due to Lee inserting a few red herrings to keep us guessing. I gave it four stars.

This is Winchester snark at it's best! I love that each book just gets better and better. You have the mystery but you also have the fun and hilarious antics of Aunt Tillie, her bringing a tap to the crash site... priceless! I enjoyed the little flash back to when the girls were teenagers it gives a more complete look at the dynamics between the Winchester women. It's great to watch all the characters growth including Aunt Tillie. Although Aunt Tillie's growth is more understanding of what made Aunt Tillie , Aunt Tillie. Ms. Lee how you keep the story line fresh is fantastic. Keep writing about the Winchester witchy women and I'll keep reading!!!!

After reading 12 books,this will be the last Witchy tale I read. Landon is a terrible FBI agent and has no honor; not releasing himself for conflict of interest and covering for his girlfriend and her aunt's misdeads. Bay does not deserve The Whisler. She bullied Brian out of town and took his inheritance. Tillie deserves to loose her power so she can feel how others feel when they are bullied magically and how no way to fight back. There is no retreaving characters in these books.

As always, the book was fun to read. I truly enjoy getting to know the characters.If you're looking for depth, for maturity, for substance, well, then this may not be quite the book for you. If however, you're looking for something that will have you laughing and wishing you had an Aunt Tilly, or three wonderful aunts who could cook like these ladies do, then you'll love this book.Keep on writing them and I'll keep on buying them!Oh, not for children. There are adult settings and situations that isn't for small eyes.

The Winchester Witches are back in full force but, once again, this story focuses on Bay and he ability to talk to ghosts. Four girls have been murdered and their bodies dumped in Hemlock Cove. Bay stumbles over the first body while shooting pictures of town residents getting drunk from a beer truck accident on the highway. Meanwhile, Aunt Tillie has become obsessed with a phone video game, is on a quest to win it all and uses Bay's image as her avatar so the younger people will play with her. If you love the Winchester Witches, this book if for you.

Have followed the Winchester Witches from book one....Don't know how you do it.....(must be magic)...but please.....keep doing it!From the minute I begin reading, it's almost as if I'm under a spell not to put the book down until I finish.....doesn't bode well for getting chores done......but following the Winchesters is definitely "spellbinding"!If you haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting this family, start from the beginning and you'll be hooked!

I'm mostly in to the wicked witches of the Midwest Series, but I am branching out into her other books. Amanda Lee puts out a good yarn, that is a lot of fun to read. I have reviewed her books and her series before, and usually just leaves the same words. But this one was a little more special. I absolutely recommend it. But as before I would ask you to start with the first book because you really do need the character development. Waiting impatiently for the next book.
