Carefully read this book, cover to cover. The writer is very gifted. However, the principle subjects are complicated; requiring more elaboration. Each chapter needed to be much longer. The book itself needed to be a minimum of: 300 pages; (ideally, 500 pages.) Even, better there should have been just two subjects selected; and then 300 - 500 pages of content. Example: if the two related subjects of: 'John Wilkes Booth: Was Lincoln's Assassin Apprehended?' and 'The Kennedy Assassination: The Truth Is Out There' were combined into ONE book; (there is more likely a possibility for excellence.) The book then, could have been divided equally; and parallels drawn. Let me additionally say, that each chapter was done well, for the amount of pages allocated. Each chapter, does not appear to push one side or the other. However, I really wanted to give a three star rating. This is all due to the lack of quality material within the last chapter. It seems, that a lot more work went into the previous chapters. Also, the last chapter, regarding the Kennedy Assassination; was a little too heavy into psychology. What do I mean about that? The writing in the last chapter seemed to imply the public had a need to complicate the crime. My interpretation may not be correct. But, in several sentences there seemed the implication, that the public had; deep seated fears that played on their interpretation of evidence. In essence, the book has taken 10 very complicated subjects; and has not elaborated on them enough. If it was a book on 'creative art'; then, there would be enough pages on the subject. However, these are intricate, complicated subjects; that require a lot more serious discussion and elaboration.

I like reading about conspiracies and secret societies since I was a kid. I found this book for the most part just a rehash of other books on the subject. There was not much decoding in my view just a here is a conspiracy we can't prove or disprove. It is like watching a TV show without the dramatic music or commercial breaks. Now don't get me wrong some were interesting like the chapter on JFK's assassination. The one on John Wilkes Booth was just an rehash of old theories of did he or didn't he died in that barn, but the same can be said about several other person's from our history. Others were pretty new conspiracy theories to me. The only one that I had a big problem with was the theory on Dan(D.B.) Cooper there was too much circumstantial evidence for his claim and I want to say what about the money to find out what I am talking about read the book. I think if you are conspiracy buff you will find this book interesting or if you want to delve into conspiracies this is a good place to start.

This guy's TV shows are so crazy conspiratorial that you'd expect his book to set your hair on fire. You'd be wrong. This is an elegant and entertaining coffee table book (though not of large size) that is quite moderate in tone and entirely factual, with emphasis on the decoding rather than the conspiracy. It's especially enticing for a youngster because each conspiracy is described in a short story and presented with a sealed envelope containing a facsimile document that holds the key to or at least represents the conspiracy. It is worth every penny...makes me smile to see it lying on my bookshelf. Kids pick it up whenever they have a few minutes to wait, read/revisit one story at a time.

Some of the information and possible scenarios were new to me. This gives the reader the chance to form his own opinion on some. I especially enjoyed the section on the Abraham Lincoln assassination, and the real possibility that what I learned in school needed updating. Read it yourself and find out!!

I found this book went by almost too fast. I was pretty well versed on a out half of these stories, and I found all of them equally easy to follow, and I was glad to follow along. The author inserts his personal outlook throughout, but it is a light touch, and I felt as if he was doing it to share how he turns over each of the stones in the different subjects. The style allowed his enthusiasm for the subject to shine through, and this added to the overall easy and eager flow to the pacing. A couple of his stories I knew all of the details he presents, and they gibed extremely well with all the things I learned. I felt although one could find more elements to the story, there was nothing missing in order to make the case, or debunk the case he was making. Well done, I look forward to reading more of Mr. Meltzer's work.

At first a bit interesting---until you get to passages that state an engraving on a tree will migrate up with time (entirely untrue) and a "case closed" rehash of the jfk assassination. Beyond difficult to give any creedence after whoppers like that.

If you are a fan of the show, you will certainly be a fan of the book. Take the material with grain of salt, but it is certainly provocative and wants you the reader to ask more questions. What disappoints me about the kindle edition is the "Exhibits" that are presented are difficult to read. That might be better in paper format, but it certainly does not take away from the book itself.

I found this book to be well-written, humorous and incredibly addicting! I've never seen Melzer's "Decoded" TV program, but as someone who enjoys shows like "Coast to Coast AM", I'm going to start tuning in. There were several of these conspiracies I'd never even heard of such as The Georgia Guidestones (freaky!), but the author does a great job in presenting them (or recapping, if you're already in the know) before giving a full deconstruction. As you can imagine, not everything can be buttoned up with a tidy little explanation, but isn't that the fun of conspiracy theories?

This is a great simple dictionary for clearing up the definitions of words. There are enough definitions to cover the common usages of words. There aren't big words in the definitions that would cause you to not understand them. There are times when you'll need to use a bigger dictionary like the Oxford American to find a proper definition of a word, and there are some words that aren't in this dictionary.

I like that that definitions are very easy to understand.

As per the dictionary guidelines, We should able to register our online service by attached sealed passcode, however, we got the online registration problem due to incorrect passcodeWe sent our problem to the customer service but we didn’t receive anybody from Longman as per their instructionDisappointed to their customer service even there is no contact number can be reached outCan amazon customer service help?Anyway we use the dictionary but lost the online pronunciation and other service for my daughter day learningThanks

A bit expensive but bought two for my three adopted teenagers to use to as a resource for ELL...they use them all the time.

Would return it. I received a scrapbook. I bought the new one but the book that I received was like a used book! I’m so disappointed and would not order again.

This, for me, is quite a technical book. I have to read the passages over and over, but I have tried some of the ideas at bridge games, and they are VERY helpful. This week at the bridge table, a woman bid 1C, and she announced (illegally) "could be short". I knew she had 3 diamonds, 2 clubs, and 4/4 in the majors! What a help. Given that and my hand, I knew the placement of half the cards in the deck. After her partner responded, I knew even more!

Great book by a young Mike Lawrence. Provides insight into how the pros read the cards. You have to adjust your thinking a bit to cover more modern conventions and bidding practices....so many people open with lousy 11 pointers so its never quite as clear cut as in the book and the range of card possibilities are wider....but the ideas are totally sound. You can practice the techniques as well, I have started playing on line with three robots just to take my time and count out the cards on each side. WIshed i had read this years ago when i was better at remembering everything!

Arrived in excellent shape. The text is not for the novice but for the intermediate or advanced bridge player. Since I am at a higher level I found the book very interesting and informative.

Mike Lawrence is one of the most intelligent authors I have ever read (and I read a lot). This is also one of his better-organized and readable books (surprisingly his first book). Reading this book will teach you how to think at the table. Counting is a skill that separates the novice from the expert, and this book goes a long way towards teaching you that vital skill. This book is among my three favorite Mike Lawrence books, the other two being "Play Bridge with Mike Lawrence", and "Play a Swiss Teams of Four With Mike Lawrence". Another vital skill taught here is deduction. A simple but very useful example: as declarer if you are missing AK of a side suit, and the opening lead is something else, then either the opening leader is missing both cards or the honors must be split, else the A or K would be the natural lead (assuming neither defender has bid).

This is a recognized classic book on declarer play in bridge. I already own the book on hardback, and I wanted to have it in digital format to review anytime I wanted. A must have for any serious bridge player.

I'm sure it's a good book, but it's at a more advanced level than I am.

The book is excellent, teaching more about play of the hand than any that I have read. Lost my first copy, probably a loan not returned. Really needed the book. So much in it, I needed to refresh my memory.

It is not suitable for kindle. You have to keep going back and forth from page to page, which became extremely frustrating. Otherwise, it is good. If it is available as an on-hands book, I will buy it also.

I am currently taking an Intro Computer Security Course. This book is very good. Explains the basic. Don't be expecting a reference book here. Just outlines the main concepts.

A very good book that deals with the basics, the math, and the practical security issues. It's better than other security books I have read.

The text appears to be detailed and comprehensive. As an introduction to computer security, there were a few assumptions made about the readers. Abbreviations used throughout the text were difficult to decipher. A common practice is to write out the terms with the abbreviations used in parentheses immediately following. I did not find this in the text, requiring me to reread the chapters several times to get a feel for what is being described. This includes statistical nomenclature. Students taking an introductory course may not have had statistics and not understand the symbols presented. For symbols, an appendix should have been included which defines those labels for readers. Otherwise, I have found the examples to bring meaning to the content. It was through the examples that I was able to grasp the intent of each chapter.

It's a good book for anyone who wants to learn computer security from a conceptual perspective but not for practical applications. Can be very dry reading, but that might just be the subject matter. It's a good introductory book.

I bought the book because this is a text book for one of my courses (Computer Security). Although the book Computer Security: Art and Science is a much thorough one, but this one is better, if u are starting to learn about Computer Security.Note :- This book is not for those(non computer scientists) who wants to implement Security at their home.

A good general introduction to security. As it is a general introduction the material is relatively current. For specifics (new threats, etc.) it is beginning to show its age.

It's a 500 page book plus thousands of lines of source code, so your answers are in there ... somewhere. But the whole product is painfully disorganized.The source code does not provide an adequate solution to producing Excel add-ins, it is just too brittle, hard to modify/maintain, and confusing. There are 141 functions that read "if Excel 2007 do this, if Excel 2003 or before, do that..." which would all have to be re-written every time a new version of Excel comes out. Instead of working around the Microsoft SDK files, he changed them directly, so again you'd have to adjust them to a new version of Excel. One of the big problems with the code was the author's choice to make his "cpp_xloper" class the center of the project, which contains a huge amount of code for moving data around through Excel's xloper/xloper12 data structures, including overriding the += operator so it adds numbers and concatenates strings. This was a big mistake in my opinion because it's ALL unnecessary. You only need ONE function that needs to know anything about xlopers -- the one that converts the data to be sent to/received from the Excel C API. That should be the only function that even cares if you're in Excel 2007 or before. All of the rest of the code should be done in normal C/C++ data structures. That right there saves you about 90% of the work!!A large portion of the book is devoted to explaining this approach and documenting the source code, so to the extent the source code is bad, so is the book.To be fair, after two weeks of going through a couple thousand lines of spaghetti code, I was able to write a nice C++ wrapper that does everything I want. The information is in there ... somewhere.

The author is knowledgeable with the XLL Excel SDK but his organization needs improvement. The author over complicates things by showing too much code. There are too many warnings throughout the book that it loses its affect. Too many examples are given where the material is covered in a future chapter so you wind up flipping pages. The files are also not organized well.However, I do feel there is a lot to learn from the book. Many examples are very useful. Once I understood his organization of the book it's a very good reference. I just wish the author would spend some more time on content organization and this would be great book.Since there is no other competition on this subject the book is a must read for any XLL developer

Did not like the book after I read it once. I was in fact bit frustrated with the organization of the material. Then read it the second time and realized that this is a masterpiece. My suggestion to new readers is that do not skip a single line. The "Note"s and "Warning"s are extremely important.Thank you Steve Dalton for writing this.

This book might qualify for the "Most Specific Title" award, but the book is exactly what it claims to be. A guide to developing financial applications using excel add-ins written in C/C++.This book's target audience is someone familiar both with C/C++ as well as Excel -- not a beginner in either. Additionally, this book is not intended to be a reference for either the language or the application, but is instead a course in developing add-ins for Excel using C++. If this is what you're looking to do, this is the book you need.

The greatest disadvantage of the book is author could not decide if he writes as a software designer or financial clerk. Book is quite large, gives lots of information but the manner it does it is a bit messy. But the greatest shame is: the code samples included on CD does not compile without errors. Im using recent Visual C++ Studio 2010, and was unsuccessful in compiling samples. On the other hand, I really do not like C++ samples using own designed classes and methods, this really is not helpful in understanding the matter book is trying to explain. Much greater help is raw, ordinary C language, designing a simple c++ wrapping class, when you understand the domain of XLL development, is not a big deal. I would recommend to use EXCEL 2007/2010 SDK first, then do any web search to download any working XLL sample.

Franchement médiocre et j'en suis désolé pour l'auteur. A mon avis il s'est trop éparpillé et finalement ne va jamais vraiment dans les détails de quoi que ce soit ce qui fait que les étapes ne sont pas faciles à suivre pour mettre en pratique les codes.

The book does not have any competition, does it? I am grateful to the author, but think that one could do a better job presenting the material.If you have not heard of XLW, do try it out first.

Very complete, but hard to read/follow...I'm an experienced programmer but only starting with Excel programming so maybe that's why...Also quite expensive, but this seems to be the rule with Finance related books.
