This book is a scaled down version of the Children's Travel Activity Book & Journal (Bumper Edition) - My Trip to Alaska. There are no puzzles in this book., however there are pages to list the names and addresses of people you'd like to mail post cards too and pages titled, "What I want to do before I go", "What I want to see and do on our trip" and "What I want to bring on my trip." It is also smaller in size...6" x 9" vs 8" x 9".It has a very simple layout...space for recording the date, weather, "what we did today", "Some food I ate", and "What I liked Best" along with an area to draw a picture of something that you did that day. There are 14 of these sets of pages, enough for a two-week trip. At the end, there is a lined page titled "Things I will remember from our trip."Very simple layout but enough for a younger child...not overwhelming to have to do.Not sure it is worth the price.

Other than the cover that says "Thailand", there was nothing that made this journal specific to that vacation destination. Every page contained the same few items for kids to report on, and it looked worse than if the pages had been printed from a Word document and assembled into a book. We didn't use this item at all; instead, we used the Kids Travel Guide to Thailand- much more worth the money. I had hoped to return the item, but unfortunately it's past the time that it can be returned. I would NOT recommend this journal to anyone.

This is a total rip-off. Except for the little cloud on the front cover, there is nothing in this mentioning Disneyland. It's a thin notebook of cheap paper, with black and white pages for making lists and drawing pictures. The only color is on the covers. I'm certain that this is sold as a journal for every place people travel, with the word Disneyland on the cloud changed. It is nothing like its description. I'm returning it. I spent a little more and got what I wanted. This sure wasn't it.

I was even more pleased with this once I saw it. Small enough to tuck in a carryon entertainment bag. Has pages at the beginning to write what the child hopes to see when they get there. Separate page for each day to record what they did with space for their own illustration or to glue in a post card. My just-finished-1st-grade grandson is traveling to Alaska this summer and this will provide a perfect place to do a little writing, a little drawing, include postcards or photos, and have a mini scrapbook of his trip when he is done. Love it!

I was excited to purchase a fun travel journal for my daughter to use on our upcoming trip to Cancun. Unfortunately, the journal is very generic and not Cancun related at all. In fact, the only place that says "Cancun" is the cover. The journal pages are plain and generic with "what I did today" and "draw something you saw today" for 14 days. It is a waste of money. I'm disappointed it was not more fun and Cancun specific.

71 pages long. The front of the book is lined and guides some list making, the back is blank if you wish to continue journaling. Each day of your trip (up to day 14) offers your child a chance to write about the day and the next page page allows space for drawing. Interesting idea, but I was hoping for a bit more. Honestly, I could create this myself in about 30 minutes with a notebook and a just a few writing prompts.

I wish they would have show an example of a page, in order to gauge the age group this was geared toward. This is much too young for my 9 y.o. daughter. Will return and order a different one. For younger kids this seems to be good. Not too overwhelming - lots of drawing space. Simple design. Geared more towards 5 yo’s in my opinion.

My Mother wanted. a travel journal, for my 7 yr old niece who was going to Germany. The return trip was through NYC, where they would stay a few days. This is the cutest little journal and is great for allowing the child's personal thoughts.

If you are interested in wine chemistry then this is the book to have. I am a sommelier, I am not a chemist, yet despite my lack of science education and knowledge, I was still able to use this book quite easily. Margalit explores a variety of topics ranging from flavor-causing compounds to the effect of wood on the wine to the grapes development on the vine. If you are studying for a wine examination this book is must have. If you are a student in wine, this is a must have. Or if you are just interested in knowing why the Pyrazine content of Sauvignon Blanc is different in different climates, then this is the book to have.

Not an intro book, need to know chemistry to get the most out of it. I'm OK at understanding chemistry and I'm still getting a lot out of it.

Very complete writing. Very in depth. It does help to have studied chemistry in college.

The book was written before Github, stackoverflow, anything as a service and the entire gig economy. If you need to go to trade shows to know what your customers need you are in the wrong business. His insights on vc mistakes and misfitting VP sales to innovative startups are true although observations of marginal value to the reader.Despite these flaws the last chapter on company building is a valuable contribution to beginning entrepreneurs, if they are capable of absorbing change, taking advice and have the good fortune to have the right role models and coaches. As a serial entrepreneur in transition to mission oriented company in my fifth startup clearclinica.com I found the last chapter a well built and thoughtful roadmap for change.

I loved the fact that the Kindle edition had the link to youtube videos and other e-material. the first half of the book is addictive, really a cool new vision on product(costumer) Development.The second half of the book felt more like a field-book, which in nice but without the actual context is a little bit harder to keep reading as a whole publication. Notice that this is the intent of the author.I got to this book from "The Lean Startup", you can think about this two books as "complementary"

The book is good and interesting. Steve gets all his experience on the table, and makes a wonderful case for "Customer development" and "Product development" going in parallel. I have been through a launch of a product, and much of what he mentions in the book have also been my reasons for failure - and that's truly insightful! Many of the situations in the book has had happened in my case - primarily because we've been majorly "product development"- centric and worked on "customer development" after the product had reached the MVP state - when we figured out that things don't work the way customers like.Also, the examples and case-studies in the book are very nice. Some of them, I can already identify with (Eg: SUN's great start), and many I knew not - but still very apt. Postmortem on failures is a very nice way of explaining way to succeed, and Steve does a good job at it!Some parts of the book becomes a little monotonous to read. I see some repetitions, and some very obscure text. I could actually skip some pages in between, and still get a gist of the chapters. This is the reason for 4/5 stars.What I would also appreciate is some stories on "success" stories of startups whose founders have read this book, and have actually applied the methods explained in there. Such stories adds that extra supportive information, and first-hand accounts of success based on this book. I believe future editions of this book might contain such stories...

This book was recommended to me by a friend when I told them that I had enjoyed reading Lean Startup. He insisted that Four Steps to the Epiphany was far more detailed, instructive and thought out. This is pretty much an iterative recipe book, walking you through steps in detail with specific recommendations to return to earlier steps if milestones aren't achieved.

Note: The review that follows is of the Third Edition, published in 2007.In this volume, Steven Gary Blank introduces and then explains in thorough detail the "Customer Development" model, one that he characterizes as "a paradox because it is followed by successful startups, yet has been articulated by no one [other than Blank, prior to its initial publication in 2005]. Its basic propositions are the antithesis of common wisdom yet they are followed by those who achieve success. It is the path that is hidden in plain sight." In fact, Blank insists that what he offers is a "better way to manage startups. Those that survive the first few tough years "do not follow the traditional product-centric launch model espoused by product managers of the venture capital community." And this is also true of product launches in new divisions inside larger corporations or in the "canonical" garages.Moreover, "through trial and error, hiring and firing, successful [whatever their nature and origin] all invent a parallel process to Product Development. In particular, the winners invent and live by a process of customer learning and discovery. I call this process `Customer Development,' a sibling to `Product Development,' and each and every startup that succeeds recapitulates it, knowingly or not." Wow! This really is interesting stuff and I haven't even begun to read the first chapter.Few start ups succeed, most don't, and Blank notes that each new company or new product startup involves (borrowing from Joseph Campbell) a "hero's journey" that begins with an almost "mythological vision - a hope of what could be, with a goal few others can see. It is this bright and burning vision that differentiates the entrepreneur from big company CEOs and startups from existing businesses." Although Blank suggests that the aforementioned "journey" involves a four-step process, it should be noted that not one but several epiphanies or at least revelations can and - hopefully - will occur during that process, one that is multi-dimensional rather than linear, from Point A to Point Z.These are among the dozens of reader-friendly passages I found of greatest interest and value:o Customer Discovery Step-by-Step (Page 30)o The Customer Discovery Philosophy (33-37)o Customer Discovery Summary (76)o The Customer Validation Philosophy (82-83)o Customer Validation Summary (118)o Customer Creation Step-by-Step (120)o Customer Creation Philosophy (123-124)o The Four Building Blocks of Customer Creation (129-132)o Customer Creation Summary (157)o Company Building Step-by-Step (158)o The Company Building Philosophy (162-163)o Company Building Summary (205)No brief commentary such as mine can possibly do full justice to the scope and depth of material that Steven Gary Blank provides in this volume but I hope that I have at least suggested why I think so highly of him and his work. Also, I hope that those who read this commentary will be better prepared to determine whether or not they wish to read it and, in that event, will have at least some idea of how the information, insights, and wisdom could perhaps be of substantial benefit to them and to their own organization.

Content-wise, this is hands down the best book I have ever read on entrepreneurship. However, it is not lite reading. It reads like a step by step playbook (or textbook) and has little in the way of entertaining narrative. You need to be prepared for a degree of repetition in content and in structure since the author is making the case there there is a rigorous, repeatable process to building a startup. I devoured every page, including the appendices, and discovered insight after insight.

I gave them to my "hippy" friends tand hey all loved them. Cards very thick and richly illustrated, with a ridged texture that makes for easy handling.

The card stock quality is Excellent! It is sturdy and will be able to withstand abuse and I am a professional tarot and oracle card reader so I need cards that can take the abuse of daily wear! Beautiful cards. The only thing that I wish was a little different is the texture of the cards. They are a little too ridged making it a little difficult for me to shuffle fast That is my experience at least. Maybe someone else wont have that problem. Other than that, they are really nice!

Before our trip to Japan I was looking at this book, but was skeptical as I did a TON of research online as we would only be in country for 1 week and I wanted to do as much as we could in that time. I received this book about a month before our flight out and would study it at my kid's after school activities. While they were doing their thing, I was reading and highlighting all the things we wanted to do and any information I thought was good to know (which was A LOT). I did bring it with us but didn't use while in country as I planned our itinerary before we left and thankfully our air B&B host had a pocket wifi so getting around was easy with google maps.Some advice. If you're not using the shinkansen don't get the JR pass. We were there almost 4 days and were regretting getting the JR Pass as basically every line we took was not a JR line. We stayed by the Tozai line and had to pay out of pocket every time. Do your research as there are some JR lines in the metro area, but I figured we saved MAYBE 20 or 30 bucks. On the 5th day we went to northern Japan using the Shinkansen and thankfully we did since it was quite a bit if you didn't have the JR pass. Basically the JR pass was "paid" for using the Shinkansen (in our travels. YMMV) otherwise we would have wasted probably $500 (2 adults and 1 child).Back to the book. A great read, even if you think you know a lot. As far as my experience there are more places that take foreign credit cards than I imagined. I was worried and we brought a lot of yen with us but my Capital One card with 0 foreign transaction fees was accepted at quite a bit of places. I was also able to take yen out at the 7-11 ATM with my bank credit card. $88 for 10000 yen when I did it in early March 2017.

Before my travels I buy or borrow about a dozen travel guides. For a 1-month first-ever trip to japan with very light luggage, I took only three guides and Japan by Rail was one of them (the others DK Japan and Lonely Planet Kyoto). Although moving by plane to some distant Japanese destinations may be faster (not always), the Japanese Rail system is the best in the world and it should not be missed in any tour of the country. This book is geared to the Train traveler with everything that he or she may need. The hotels nearby the Stations are exactly rated and can be trusted. The food evaluations are also trustworthy. Thanks to this book I log thousand of miles trouble-free throughout Japan, remarkablef a first timer non-Japanese speaker.

This is the best guide book to bring to Japan. Don't be misled by the title into thinking that it is only about the rail system. It is a first rate guide book to the places and sights, plus a detailed guide to the train and bus systems. We traveled with both this book and the Lonely Planet guide, and after a while stopped looking at Lonely Planet and left it behind because we found that Japan by Rail did a better job of covering all the sightseeing and historical information, and would be the better guide even if it did not also include great, fine-grained information about using the trains and the buses (not just which train goes where and how long it takes, but things like which side of the station to exit from, where to buy tickets, etc.).

No other guide explains the Japan rail system better than this book. Of the 3 guide books I bought this one covers Japan rail the best. While this book is very good, I still found myself using it the least because I was more of a fan of the Lonely Planet Japan or DK Eyewitness Japan travel guides. This guide has the least photos of the 3 guide books I bought and I didn't like as much the way the book was organized. If I could only buy 1 guide book I would probably get Lonely Planet Japan, if I could get two guide books I would get this Japan by Rail and Lonely Planet Japan.

We're visiting Japan for the third time this fall and I wanted to see if I could do better than the Guide Series of various sorts.Of the several Japan guides I've bought this is by far the best.The authors have obviously really been to the places they describe and really know the way things work traveling in Japan.A first class guide.

I spent two weeks in Japan with a JR Pass and this book as my "go to" guide. From the planning stages to actually being there, it was invaluable. While I also used the DK Eyewitness Japan, Trip Advisor and online references, this was the practical, nuts and bolts workhorse.It was excellent for planning day trips and prioritizing what to see. It has a simple overview map with call outs of highlights and some great "best experience" lists. For my first week I used Himeji as my base of operations - its a small city on the Shinkansen. I followed the book's recommendation to Miyajima and loved it. Everything was well described and easy to find using the book's instructions.Traveling in Japan by train with a JR pass was a great experience. The trains are efficient, the stations are hubs and experiences in and of themselves. And the pass makes it a breeze.

This book was very helpful on our Japan trip. We got a 7-day JR Rail Pass in the US and between the book and the kind people at the train stations, we found ourselves on every train we planned to be, and got to the destinations we wanted to get to. The green cars are very nice and have room to put a carryon up above the seats, plus your seats are assigned, so that was helpful, but it's a bit costlier. We ended up sending our larger suitcase on from hotel to hotel rather than lugging it through the stations and on the trains. (about $20usd to send through your hotel)By the time we got to Tokyo, our 7-days were up and didn't need the Rail Pass anymore anyway, we just did local trains and the book helped with that also. There is also a lot of information on sights and attractions throughout the book, which was wonderful.PS- you need to try Tokyo trains at rush hour at least once. OH MY!!! "Incredible" is the only word I can think of that describes this!

This book came in very handy for planning my trip to Japan. Once I was there, it was also a great reference for getting around. What's nice is that the book features some great ideas that you don't see on the internet.

Having seen the canal in person in 1978, and leaving thoroughly amazed at this masterwork in engineering, I've read various shorter accounts of the project in years since. But nothing comes close to this masterwork of scholastic research. I can't imagine a more thorough, comprehensive, end-to-end history of one of the most amazing and successful efforts mankind has ever attempted in terms of overcoming nature and geography. I knew of the previous French effort, and was also aware of the "Nicaragua" option, but to read of the intrigue, the politics, and the personalities that tried, failed, and influenced the ultimate outcome is riveting. It took the total commitment and faith of the United States Presidents (Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson) over 14 years to do what they seldom do - make a decision, fund it, and then leave it to the hands-on experts to make the real decisions in how to get it done. That, more than anything, seems to come through as the foundation for success. Having been in the tropics, and Panama, in more modern times one can still see the rampant jungle literally a few miles from civilization. To imagine the thousands of workers toiling day after day in the wet, mud, and unbearable heat is mind boggling, yet they did it. There were parts of the book where I thought it bogged down in minutiae, reading almost as minutes of endless rounds of meetings among French and/or U.S. politicians, lobbyists, lawyers, and those in authority for building the canal "on the ground" in Panama, but in the end I have only praise for David McCullough - it wouldn't have been a complete story without all of those background details. It was a stupendous effort, and it required a stupendous effort by a gifted researcher and writer to document it, and David McCoullough has done just that. Read about one of the engineering marvels and wonders of our modern day world. You'll be glad you did.

You wouldn't think that a book detailing the creation of the Panama Canal would be an exciting and quick read. Well, you'd be wrong! I love David McCullough, I think he is flat-out the best biographer out there as well as being one hell of a history author. 1776 is my favorite book about the American revolution. The Path Between the Seas had me so interested in geology, Central American politics, jungle wildlife, topography, stuff that I would never have thought I would be interested in. It's not simply a story of the Panama Canal, it is a story of everything that multiple countries and governments went through to bring this grand project to fruition. Amazingly well-written, but I expect no less from Mr. McCullough.

What an incredible story! In many ways, this book deserves five plus stars because of the vast amount of information and research McCullough has done. But, I will just say this, it was difficult reading at times; so many names to try to keep straight. It frustrated me with all the details. Having said that, however, I want to mention that we just took a trip thru the Panama Canal and this book made me appreciate the experience so much more than I otherwise would have. From the French starting the canal, to the Americans taking over, to the inspiring completion in 1914, this book points out what an incredible engineering feat this was (and still is), done without the use of modern technology. This book is a must read for people planning to go to the canal. As you see, it took me a very long time to wade thru it; I was reading other books at the same time, but I'm glad i plowed thru to the end; it truly is astonishing what was accomplished by so many and so long ago.

What does it take to succeed when the odds are all against you? This is the engaging, detailed story of the full history of the development of the Panama Canal from the late 19 Century under the French until its opening in 1913 under the Americans. This story is vast and is a testament to man's ability to accomplish the near impossible. Over 30,000 people died during the more than two decades of the development of the Canal, mostly from pneumonia, malaria and yellow fever. The yellow fever outbreaks sometimes killed whole groups of new arrivals to the canal site with two weeks of their stepping off of the boat. This a true history of perseverance from pure guts and force of will, the faulty economics of underestimation, the conquest of terrible diseases and nature's geological and biological challenges, management of heavy equipment and an impenetrable rainforest, the political intrigue of a coup for the independence of Panama, the French failure, and Teddy Roosevelt's success from his insistence on getting it all done. Truly, this project was way beyond what anyone expected. The outcome? One of the most valuable construction projects and benefit to mankind in human history.I have received no benefit or incentives for writing this review...I just really enjoyed the read!
