An absolutely incredible inside look at Cedar Point over the last 40 years. John has given Cedar Point fans a rare look at what it takes to run the world's greatest amusement park. So many great stories and anecdotes. If you're a Cedar Point fan, you will have a hard time putting this book down once you start reading.

A firsthand reflection on John's career at Cedar Point, from his early years as a marketing manager, to his final years as General Manager at Cedar Point. My favorite story is how the park services managers used to take such pride in the cleanliness of the restrooms that they organized pre-season sleepovers IN THE RESTROOMS! If only the restroom floors were still clean enough to sleep on.

This book will certainly appeal to CP enthusiasts, amusement park enthusiasts, and former employees of CP. I was a seasonal employee in 1985 working on the Frontier Lift for it's final season and consider that summer at CP the best summer and job ever! I was smiling the entire time I read this book. It brought back so many memories from my months there and I can't say that I found anything that didn't mirror my knowledge or experience while there. John tells all his stories with sincerity, integrity and honesty. This book is a true treasure!

Excellent view of the nuts and bolts that go into providing a daily show for Cedar Point's guests. His viewpoint and perspective of 40 years are certainly rare in today's business world. It's fast moving and a quick read. I especially liked his delving into his mentors over years and how they provided him with guidance and perspective over his jouney to the top.

You will feel as if you are doing just that. The neat part is that you are seeing the midway from a GM viewpoint. This GM was VERY well known and LOVED Cedar Point! You appreciate CP even more as you learn the interaction between John and ALL of CP. The writing is excellent, very personable, and informative.

This was an excellent read! As a former intern in the Park Operations team at Cedar Point, I connected with so many of the stories which brought back so many memories.

If you've read "Living Well Is the Best Revenge," by Calvin Tomkins, or F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Tender Is the Night," this biography of Gerald and Sara Murphy will give you a comprehensive view of the lives of Gerald and Sara Murphy, American expats who "invented" summer on the Riviera in the 1920s--with Picasso, LÃ©ger, Cole Porter, John Dos Passos, Hemingway, and, of course, Fitzgerald himself. There's Sara's exceedingly comfortable upbringing in East Hampton and her powerful allure to all who knew her, Gerald's worries about the "defect" in his character and his brief moment as an important modern painter, the tragedy of the loss of their two sons, the art world (painting, music, ballet) of postwar Europe, and lives lived consciously as works of art themselves. Wonderfully written, full of anecdote and character, highly recommended.

I decided to read this book upon completing Paula McClain's book, "The Paris Wife" which was a wonderfully written story of Hemingway's first wife, Hadley Richardson, and their life and times in Paris during the twenties. It was an era which brought together artists, writers, and poets, enveloped in decadence, luxury, and debauchery. Gerald and Sara Murphy were New York socialites who moved to Paris without artistic pursuit, but plenty of money to buy their way into the inner circles of the Americans in Paris who would shape our literary, artistic, and musical lives forever. I would have given this five stars, but the book slows down terribly during the second half. It's almost as though Vaill ran out of energy. There is lots of juicy gossip in this book which makes for incredibly, fascinating reading. If you're into that sort of stuff, then you may well give this book five stars. I found it immensely intimate and revealing with a good flow. There are times when it reads like a history book, but for the most part, it is a good story with lots of historical insights at the center of which are the Murphys, who befriended, supported, and held together, the Americans in Paris.

Didn't expect to like this book. Over privileged couples from the twenties have a very limited appeal for me. The writer moves the reader through the back story rather quickly with lots of interesting tidbits. It was easy to become involved. It does flesh out the group of people that lived in artistic bliss during that time period.

I'm so glad this was one of the books I decided to read after "THE PARIS WIFE." I knew there was a "Sara and Gerald Murphy, however, there really isn't anything written about them. I find this absolutely amazing, because they were the "POWER COUPLE " of their time. (The Lost Generation,) as Gertrude Stein so aptly put it. They were the influences with Hemingway, Picasso, the Fitzgeralds, people looked towards them as friends, confidents, and while their life was stuff that "dreams were made of, there was unimaginable tragedy" in their lives, yet they kept going on where others might have fallen. EXCELLENT BUT LONG READ, (with photos, well documented.)

I am always drawn to books about the beautiful people, especially during the Gilded Age in New York and the early 20th Century in Europe and the States. They pop up in books about Fitzgerald and Hemmingway, Cole Porter, Dawn Powell and many other shining stars of that era.Because I had so often encountered the radiant couple, I began to seek out sources about them as people, not just as people on the periphery of the movers and shakers of the time. I chanced upon the Tompkins piece in the New Yorker, "Living Well Is the Best Revenge." It whetted my appetite for more about these charmed and enigmatic people. Around the same time, I saw De-Lovely, the fictionalized movie about Cole Porter and his wife Linda in which the Murphy's play a large, if not totally accurate, part.Then I found this book, Everybody Was So Young by Amanda Vaill, in my BookBub Kindle selections and my pulse started racing. Finally, a book length inquiry into the elusive couple I longed to know. My find has proven to be one of the most delicious of my book trolling career.This is no mere surface rehashing of the same old stories about Gerald and Sara Murphy we may have seen before. It is a rigorously researched account of both Gerald and Sara starting from their upbringing and parental influences, through their schooling and adolescences and college years, to the beginning of their improbable relationship and ultimate marriage. There have been areas in Africa where villages have been devastated by Ebola and it's three different strains.This book is creepy as it explains how the military handles the research of such virus's in it's Level Four research labs, where the handlers need no vaccinations when studying, because there are no vaccines. The researchers wear spacesuits and go through different levels before they can enter the area for researching such viruses as Ebola-a hole in your glove could mean certain death; you'd also be sent to a hospital where you'd have no chance to infect others - you'd die alone, a most grisly death too, as you'll read in the descriptions of people who died of Ebola.Of special interest is the story of the spread of Ebola in Africa before it became a known virus.Scary Non-fiction told in the author's usual riveting style.

Do I say "Research?" It is due to the fact that I am writing a fictional 'zombie' book for NaNoWriMo that I picked up the Kindle and Audible versions of this book. My zombies are merely sick people. I am not a medical person so I needed some input on how it all starts and how contagious it all is. As it turns out it isn't as bad as Ebola, but the gore of my book might evolve due to this book.Meanwhile, this is a book I put off for decades. I remember a guy named Jason at the school I worked at that came up to me with the paperback. He was so excited about it. But the more he talked the squirmier I got. "And it's a true story!" He exclaimed. I started watching shows like Outbreak. We saw it in the theater. Remember that sneeze? I nearly ran out of there when someone coughed.I grew--good or bad, I guess that's for others to judge. But lately, I can watch a disaster movie, or The Walking Dead and notice only the social reaction to the monsters or the disease or the overwhelming snow. So I thought I could now face this book.Reading happens at bedtime. Bet you can guess how this book blended into dreams. And since I listened as I read the Kindle with the Audible, that voice! Richard M. Davidson's voice. What a deep bass and excellent for the genre! Creepy and authoritative! Wow!What I learned is that my characters in my book were dressed properly to deal with their strains of disease. And I learned I never want to be anywhere near someone coughing! If I was a germaphobe before... well, let's just say there isn't enough hand sanitizer in the world for me!Knowing this is nonfiction made this even more frightening. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago there was an Ebola scare. What a horrid disease! And this author did a poetic job of helping the reader to see it and feel it. If you haven't read it yet, climb out of your hiding place and give it a try. Forewarned is forearmed as they say. Might as well get the Audible version to make it even more real. I will try to read more of his books now. Time for more vitamin C and Airborne!

I missed this book altogether when it first was published, but I did see it around the house. One of my sons read it, and told me the other day the book helped him decide on a career in medicine -- he's now in his sixth year of an M.D.-Ph.D. program . He told me this the other day when we were talking Ebola. So I decided to read it. Wow!Preston is a good storyteller, and he recounts the appearance of Ebola in suburban Washington as though this real-life event were a thriller, as, indeed, it turned out to be. I've read that Preston plans a new edition of the book, to correct what might be some overstatements in the course of an Ebola infection. I also wonder whether he will address the belief expressed in the Hot Zone that Ebola can be spread by airborne means.On the legal side, Preston has a good understanding of the law's inherent conservatism. When military brass was trying to decide how best to confine the outbreak of Ebola at a facility housing research monkeys, the officers conclude that it is best to act first, before seeking legal advice. Once they acted, the lawyers could always defend the emergency measures taken as legal. I chuckled when I read that, recognizing the inherent conservatism of a lawyer's advice.I enjoyed this book immensely. It gives insight into medical research, public health and military preparedness for a biohazard disaster. Surprisingly, it appears we don't know much more about Ebola than what we knew in 1995, when this book was published -- except that the virus still lives and is still capable of enormous destruction.

We skim the headlines on the internet and give it a mental shrug, Sudan, it's a long ways away but this is happening, right now!Oh, the FIFTH-STAR is for Amazon's WhisperSynch (audio enhanced Kindle books). Love it, makes reading and listening to audiobook into one; no time lost while driving, pick up reading back at home. Just open the iPad Kindle app and it knows automatically where it left off on the iPhone, driving in from Lubbock. It was not what I expected and I am unable to use this item.

I found 50 More Great Object Lessons That Bring The Bible To Life very helpful. Each lesson is easy to follow with clear and concise instructions. Mark, offers a Point, Prep, Props, Process, and Prayer for each lesson. I found that for every lesson I had all the "Props" in my own household items. If there is something you don't have he offers other suggestions of items you can substitute. I also found it helpful to know ahead of time what lessons needed "Prep" before class time so I could be best prepared for my students. It is a great resource for any classroom.

Practical ideas that help bring a dose of creativity to the process of teaching children about the Lord. Great resource for busy church leaders, teachers, and volunteers.

I say 1) Read this book first, 2) watch A Lot of Ms Golob's YouTube videos, 3) attend THE BEST and HIGHEST CERTIFIED classes you can: do Beginning, in-class & range, (repeat it if they will allow you to), 4) Take a couple of PRIVATE LESSONS from a Certified Instructor, 5) (Take a deep breath) Go to the range & PRACTICE! 6) Join your local gun club (these are really nice folks), 7) READ *SHOOT* A 2nd TIME!!! (Why? ---> FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS take time to build. Get exposure in EVERY safe form you can!! REPETITION of GOOD SAFETY SKILLS are PARAMOUNT!! 8) ( Take 2 deep breaths ) Sign up for & enter your gun club competition fun/ sport day! Go ahead, you can do it!! Your SAFETY skills will ALWAYS be more important than your shooting skills.This book didn't get into my hands until after my first competition. I stopped & read this book. I was so impressed that I started immediately and read it again. I wanted to get this information on every level: repeatedly. I wish I had started competition shooting A L O N G time ago. It is great fun! It builds confidence and self respect for energy IN = consistently better and more refined results. And the folks who are involved in shooting & gun clubs are the nicest folks I've met in ages! C'mon, join us!!

While this book isnâ€™t a deep reference for anyone with experience, I have found it to be one of the better books to recommend to young ladies who have no previous exposure to the shooting sports. The book is not specific to ladies and works equally well for young men who ask for an introduction. There is a very good overview description of all the different types of formal and informal shooting sports, but especially firearms. The volume just brushes on the air gun world or archery, but that doesnâ€™t detract from what it does for pistols, rifles, and shotguns. It gives a good perspective to those who are starting from scratch and even those who have some experience in one or two areas but not the others. She then does a good job of introducing how to get started in general, with basics and fundamentals that are common to static and moving targets of all kinds, and good descriptions of equipment and rules. A good volume for kids with no family background and even those with at least a limited background.

If you are remotely interested in the looking into the action shooting sports, buy this.It is very well written and it was exactly what I was needing.Julie Golob uses plain language (doesn't talk above your head w/ shooter's lingo) and encourages you to research the sport.

What can you say? This book is a great intro into the world of competitive shooting. I just couldn't stand still in a lane and punch holes in paper any longer. I love shooting, but was getting bored. This was advertised as a Smart Points cookbook. However that is not the case, it does give the outdated Points Plus, but you'll have to calculate each recipe for the Smart Points. Because of that I haven't used it.

I've been on WW since January, and I've been frustrated by how few recipes are available for the new SmartPoints program. I wouldn't make all of these recipes on a daily basis, but I appreciate the variety. I am cooking for one, but most of the recipes are easy enough to adjust portions accordingly. I appreciate that book is large and beautifully presented. The photographs are great and the recipes are easy to follow. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for SmartPoints inspiration.

When I saw the two previous, kind of negative reviews for this book, I felt compelled to comment. This book is terrific! I read a lot of cookbooks, and this is well-done. On the basic level: it is well-illustrated, has thick pages, opens easily and stays on the cookbook stand. Each recipe also lists the nutritional values as well as the new Smart Points for each dish. The recipes have a very manageable amount of ingredients and instructions in easy-to-understand language. I have four children - teenagers and college students. Even my picky-meat-and-potatoes guy would eat most of these recipes. The division of the book into sections is great; they're entitled: Cooking with Staples from Your Pantry, Super-Easy No-Cook Recipes, Make It Ahead, Shortcut Dishes, Slow-Cooker Chilies/Stews/Roasts/and More, Have Breakfast for Dinner. There are main dishes and side dishes. I am not a gourmet cook and regularly avail myself of meal-kit services (e.g. Plated), precooked grocery meals and carryout. This is a welcome addition to anyone who is trying to adhere to the Weight Watchers food plan but also for everyone who wants to serve their family healthy dinners.

I have made several recipes from the book and they all turned out well, and taste good. Most of these recipes are labor intensive, with several ingriedents. If you don't mind cooking or baking and you want good results this book is for you. If you want quick and easy and like to substitute instead of buying the correct ingredients it is not. Having gone through all the recipes twice, I easily selected 15 I wanted to make right off. Most of the ingredients are not difficult to find, but some you will have left overs you will have to find a use for because of the small quantities used. Over all I think I made a good purchase. The German Choclate Cake muffins are awesome!

This has some GREAT recipes! I just hate the layout of the book. I like when all dinners, desserts, etc are together. They are not in this book as it's all mixed together. I think it would be more useful if it was organized better.

I was super excited to finally see this on my doorstep! This hard back book has a variety of recipes for any occasion, simple to elegant and includes Smart Point values. I feel it was a great value and I'm buying another for my WW buddy :)

We are cooking our way through this book. It really does work for the entire family. When you are on Weight Watchers cooking for everyone can be a challenge but this book is a true helper.

The recipes are just odd. I was very disappointed. I went through about half the book and only found maybe a few recipes that I would even consider making. When I think of "family meals" I think of meals that you can make in under 45 minutes that would be crowd pleasers. The cover picture implies that everyone would be grabbing for the yummy food... But when I went through the recipes, I just kept thinking how strange the ingredient pairings were. I'm not interested in these recipes and I can guarantee a 10 year-old kid definitely wouldn't be!

The recipes are simple or odd. Do you need a recipe for a variation of tacos meatloaf? Are you likely to eat Fresh Figs with Bourisn or Swordfish with Meyer Lemons? Organization is difficult to follow. Check the book out from your library and save your money.

My son loves this book and the next book in this series, but the binding is AWFUL!!!! Luckily, Iâ€™m a book binder, so Iâ€™m repairing the book myself, but not every kid is as lucky to have this kind of crafty mom. Seriously though, Iâ€™ve never seen a more poorly bound book. Our book fell apart after a week or two of reading and re-reading it, but the second book in the series broke after just one day.Iâ€™m still giving it 4 stars because my son loves this series so much. (I gave the secnd book 3 stars because it fell apart faster than this one.) I hope the third book is bound better than the first two!!!!

We gave this to a friend for his 8th birthday, and the reports are that he really likes it. He's super into both Minecraft and graphic novels, so it makes sense that this would be right up his alley. I'm giving it four stars because I think it should be priced a few dollars lower...more like $14 or $15. Also, the book was dinged on the spine and the edge of the cover was bent a bit (not cool for a new book), and the graphics were dark and, in my opinion, unpleasant (but they are classically Minecraft-y).

Great fun!

My 7 yo grandson loved it. He's an avid reader of graphic novels and is obsessed with Minecraft. This was perfect for him.
